Several aspects to film distribution

Logistics of film

- The company that supplies the actual cinema with the film reel
- They must meet all laws and regulations regarding the film
- The logistics make agreements with the cinema concerning the transportation of the film reels
- The distributor handles 35MM film print ( Around £1000 )
- The production team of the movie rents out the film-prints who rent them out to cinemas
- A working title movie such as THIS IS ENGLAND may only print a small out out due to budget issues, thus reflecting on the overall success of the movie

Prints And Advertising
- Specialized films - smaller advertisement
- Mainstream films - larger advertisement
- Standard poster - 30 x 40 cm ( the most effective format )
- Adverts shown in prime time t.v
- Takes 50% of the films budget
- Pre releases create more hype
- Some movies rely on viral marketing more than others

Digital Distribution
- Movies maybe downloaded into the consumers home
- May give better quality sound
- Quite expensive, but will reduce in price
- Reduces transport costs
- May put cinemas out of business

Vertical integration
Eg:/ Working title would produce, promote films them selfs to generate higher profits and would keep all the processes within the one company

1. Working Title Films is a British film production company, based in London, England. The company was founded by Tim Bevan and Sarah Radclyffe in 1982. It produces feature films and some television productions. Eric Fellner and Bevan are the co-owners of the company now. Chris Cunningham, responsible for Aphex Twin's videos Come To Daddy and Windowlicker, is responsible for an abstract short film called Rubber Johnny, which features the music of Aphex Twin and was released on May 23, 2005. Rubber Johnny was originally scheduled to be released two weeks earlier, but was postponed due to the original printing firm objecting to the film's content.

2. The ownership of the company would affect the bugdet of the film, because, the more popular and wealthy the company is, the more money they have to spend on a film or T.V.

New technologies to target a more specific audience

Text messaging - Orange Wednesdays, targeted at teenagers who regularly visit the cinemas and have used orange Wednesdays in the past.

Video Games – Allow the film to be promoted through a certain game and would encourage the consumer to watch the movie or buy the game after watching the movie.

YouTube - Film promoters would upload trailers onto YouTube to allow everybody to view them, YouTube would also force you to watch a trailer before watching the desired clip.

Social Networking Sites – Films would be promoted at the younger generation who regularly use the sites, they would also be the genre that would appeal to the consumer.

Emails- Films would send you emails on upcoming films, and things that you are interested in.
